The "Reality" of Images

This art has an interesting take on the reality of images. It's the work of a man who draws large-scale art on sidewalks or the ground of public squares; much of it looks like you could fall in, and for some of the more realistic pictures, it's very difficult to convince yourself that it's done on a flat surface (particularly the laptop one and the one where he has drawn a picture of himself drawing).

Behind a Photograph

This example really goes back to the ideas we discussed at the beginning of the course about the power of images and the stories behind them. When I was listening to NPR over the weekend, I found this radio piece very moving, a story about a popular photograph that captures of a firefighter holding a child's lifeless body--a popular symbol of the devastation of the Oklahoma City bombings. At the same time, this photograph is a constant reminder for the mother of the diseased child and the firefighter who tried to save her as it is found not just on Newspapers but on T-shirts, lapel pins...

Both the image and the recording (approx. 10min) are available here:

Job Posting: Graphic Designer

Hey guys,

Since most of you are visual/design oriented, I wanted to pass on this job posting to you:
http://financialaid.brown.edu/JobXJobDetail.aspx?JobId=3469

It's a great position as a graphic designer for the Student Technology Assistant program at CIS (which I'm leaving at the end of the year) and is a great place to both make some money and really expand your design/technical expertise. The STA program website is here. Anyway, check it out. :)

Things!

Hello!

Lately, I have become like my grandma, who is hesitant to throw anything away, mainly in the sense that I feel like I bookmark every other page I go to. Nonetheless, I try to be pretty organized about it, and over time I seem to have gathered up a nice little collection of visual resources (among other things), which I hope will be of some use to you all.

A nice little collection of stock photo sites
Color palette generator, very cool
The biggest stock photo site (I think)
hmm, a backwards color palette generator?
Rock Band Fonts, fun!
Color scheme generator
Movie Fonts!
Open clip art....!
Photoshop Tutorials

Oh yeah, and I got a lot of these from del.icio.us, which is a very wonderful website that I'd suggest you check out if you haven't already.

Have fun!
